Elizabeth's 2nd Birthday Party!

Hello all!  I'm making an effort to catch up on the blog this week.  I'm also making an effort to catch up on errands, laundry, straightening, general cleaning, Spring cleaning, and paper-filing.  Since there is absolutely zero chance that everything is going to get done, we'll see what we end up with by the end of the week!
Elizabeth had a great party at our house.  We decided to have a simplish, smallish birthday party with dinner and cake at our house, just like last year.  No gathering is ever really small with lots of family nearby, but we love that about our lives!
We had a little announcement waiting for our guests at the beginning of the party...

I have a really cool friend from college who makes these amazing cakes!  I contacted her to see if she had a great way to announce something at Elizabeth's birthday party.  She sent me the greatest sketch ever of a layered, topsy-turvy cake with a rainbow connecting the layers and leprechauns on both sides, and it was perfect!  Unfortunately, her talents were all booked up for that weekend, and her skills exceeded what I was able to find locally.  So Christa and I made our own cake/cupcake announcement - not nearly as professional-looking, but we enjoyed it!
On an entirely different note, this announcement was of little surprise to most people.  With the 4th child in a small town, you just can't hide these things for long, especially when you get sick every time this happens and your friends and family recognize your car in the OB's parking lot!  Nonetheless, we are no less excited to be welcoming a 4th little person into our family!  Christa is hoping for a boy, because she "has enough sisters to take her clothes" (even though she generously shares with them, and I'm pretty sure she heard me say that to someone, and just liked the way it sounded!)  Abby Kate wants a girl so she can name her after her best friend, Molly.

Family picture.  Those lights are always in the way, but the sun was setting, so the back light on the window just wouldn't work.

 Mother and daughter!
Getting ready to blow out the candle... which was such a hit, we had to do it a few times!

Elizabeth loves a song, so she thoroughly appreciated the singing of "Happy Birthday" portion of the evening!

Pa is usually the one feeding my kids; they know they won't go hungry when he's around, and they also know they can sucker the most junk food out of him!

Big girl with one of her favorite presents - a baby doll with a mini coupe car!  She also got a xylophone, a Minnie Mouse bingo set, some cute summer clothes, a leprechaun/Wizard of Oz Madame Alexander doll for her collection, a new hairbow, some money for her savings account and some to donate to our missionary friends in Africa (in honor of the missionary spirit of Saint Patrick's Day), and a few other wonderful toys that we have enjoyed!

I wonder how many more years I'm going to get by with a Saint Patrick's Day theme before she starts wanting Princesses and Barbie Dolls.....
