Last week, I turned the kitchen corner to find Christa in here:

Hmmm... I'd thought she was innocently playing with the Tupperware. Oh well. I strategically arranged my lower cabinets with the expectation that her curiosity would grow as she learned to get around better. No worries. Especially about those stairs. Because I- smug, prepared supermom - had anticipated that the day might come when my child was no longer restricted to the den where I instructed her to play, and had a sturdy gate custom ordered and installed to accommodate our unusual banister.
As you can see here:

So you can imagine my surprise when it took all of about 15 seconds for my sweet baby girl to figure this out:

And then this:
And then, this:
And then I really wanted to nominate myself for mother-of-the-year, when I looked up from vaccuming and saw this:
Seriously - I don't know how she can fit through that space! She's like a cockroach! (I'm sure THAT comment just sealed the deal for my nomination for mother of the year!)
Houston, we have a problem...

That is too funny! Welcome to toddlerhood!
I just think that's so funny!! Sorry, I suppose I get that right since I have 3 Houdini's at home. Enjoyed our weekend with you. Can't wait until the kids can play together again.
Hmm...strange- guess I was logged on as Kimberly and not Tinney Family- never done that before!
Yeah, see at my house that would not be a problem, my kids not a coacaroach hes a horse!!!! Isn't walking fun?????
That's hilarious Jess!! It's fun keeping up with toddlers and preschoolers! You never know what or how they are going to get into anything : ) Just make sure she doesn't get her head stuck between the rails of the stairs. It probably won't happen, but Gracie did that at my mom's one night. All we had to do was get her to move her head back up (the opening was bigger at the top than the bottom). Just a warning!
Jess, you have your Houdini and I finally have mine! I got a little kitten this weekend and named him Winston. It seems as though he has been in communication with Christa. I'm as confused as you are in terms of acrobatic skills and drive for adventure (including squeezing one's head through the smallest space imaginable). Jim is already laughing about what a neurotic parent I'm going to turn out to be. Gah...
Ha ha ha...kids are so funny, aren't they? They will always find a way!
I just love this story! Kids really know how to outsmart their parents. Here you go spending the money to put up a special gate and she figured it out in a matter of time. Now you have to figure out a way to keep her out of that area. Good Luck! I know this story all too well. LOL!
